Henna night at Le Chateau Lambousa Kyrenia

Henna nights in Kyrenia are much different than they are in Istanbul. I’ve learnt that when I went there for Esra and Emre’s wedding in Cyprus. Because they asked me to photograph not only their wedding, but also the henna night in Cyprus at Le Chateau Lambousa.

I have met Esra and her father in Istanbul, where they came for their wedding shopping. They told me that it would be a wedding with many guests, who would be giving their best wishes and gifts to the couple. So there would not be much dancing. But what they did not tell me was that the henna night would be too much fun!

First, I met with Esra and her mother, and went to Abdullah Öztoprak‘s workshop to pick up the dress. Mr. Öztoprak himself helped Esra put on his beautiful design.

At night, I had more surprises at Le Chateau Lambousa. Emre was in traditional outfit when he showed up before the guests. A group of young man, also in local traditional outfit, shaved his beard in front of the guests. And after the henna was applied, there was a beautiful folk show to the guests’ delight.
